Digital Collage: Vintage Woman In Library
This is one of my newest digital collages. Of course, I used a vintage photograph of a woman as the main subject matter. I just love those really old black and white photographs from the 1900s. The lighting skills that photographers had back then were so beautiful and amazing.
Of course, there are very skilled photographers today but it just seems that there aren’t too many who do that old style of lighting that really shows off the facial bone structure anymore.
On this one I tried a new lighting technique that I found on a Youtube Photoshop tutorial. The technique allowed me to create an effect that lets the woman’s skin glow more then it would have if I had not done the technique. I think I will use it on all my artwork from now on since I am very pleased with the results. I have been using Photoshop for over 20 years and I still only know about 1/3 of the stuff on there. It’s such a complex and amazing program. Plus they are always adding new features.
The vintage photograph of the woman is not the only public domain image I used to create this new piece of artwork. (I just love public domain art! So much beautiful artwork to use in creating new and wonderful artwork.) The background is made up of vintage photographs and vintage illustrations of books, libraries, and plants.
The collage has a quote in the lower left hand corner by Erica Jong that reads, “A book burrows into your life in a very profound way because the experience of reading is not passive.”
